It’s only taken three months since the full game made its acclaimed debut, but Capcom has finally announced a free console and PC demo for Resident Evil Requiem

Three months after its full release, Capcom has announced a demo for Resident Evil Requiem.

The demo is available now across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Steam, and Epic Games Store, and in the words of Capcom will offer players a “taste” of the horrors awaiting in Resident Evil Requiem. “The demo version allows you to play part of the game’s early stages,” it said, adding that save data from the demo can’t be transferred to the full version of the game.

Several people have shared their amusement as well as bemusement that Capcom is only now announcing a demo for Resident Evil Requiem. Previous series entries such as Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Village had demos for would-be players prior to launch. Meanwhile, many others out there have already finished Requiem, and are now eagerly awaiting its previously announced story expansion. Which will hopefully answer the lingering question of who (Chris) Leon now appears to be married to.

Resident Evil Requiem has been a huge hit for Capcom, releasing to critical and commercial acclaim. We awarded it five stars in Eurogamer’s review, with our Matt calling it “legendary horror at an all-time high”. It quickly became the fastest-selling entry in the Resi series’s more than 30 year history and in April, a little less than two months after its release, Capcom celebrated Requiem passing 7m sales. Earlier this month, the publisher credited the game for helping it earn record profit for the ninth year in a row.

Also this month, Capcom released Resident Evil Requiem’s frantic minigame, Leon Must Die Forever. This can be unlocked after completing Requiem’s main story, and challenges players to clear numerous enemy-laden stages as Leon while unlocking “exclusive enhancer abilities”.
