A new hardcore zombie FPS, Undead Chronicles, is making its way to Steam. Steam is home to all kinds of zombie games, ranging from classic-style survival-horror games to action-packed first-person shooters to management sims and more. If you are a horror game fan, and have a particular affinity for the zombie genre, Steam is the place to go.
Of course, 2026 has been a big year for zombie games on Steam, with Resident Evil Requiem hitting the platform to rave reviews and higher player counts. Something I appreciated about Resident Evil Requiem is that it featured slow-moving, old-school zombies to go along with its other monstrosities, and now another game is trying its hand at Romero-esque undead.

New zombie games are always on the horizon, and 2026 is not an exception, as a few major titles have already been announced.
Undead Chronicles Trailer
Undead Chronicles is a new zombie game making its way to Steam. No release date has been announced at the time of this writing, and it’s unclear if a console version is potentially in the cards as well, but what we do know about the game is plenty exciting. Undead Chronicles promises to be a brutal, hardcore horror FPS where the only enemy type is the slow-moving zombies from classic Romero movies. Ammo is extremely limited and so every shot counts, with zombies reacting realistically to where they’ve been shot and what they’ve been shot with. The game will also feature a permadeath mechanic where one zombie bite effectively means it’s game over and players will have to start again. For hardcore zombie fans, Undead Chronicles may very well be their dream game come to life.
Undead Chronicles is set in 1923 Istanbul, with players taking on the role of banker RJ Edwards. Edwards will have to contend with “real zombies,” with developer Sefyhouse Games promising that there will be no special zombie types like we have seen in many other zombie video games over the years. Notably, the game has no HUD, and so players need to keep track of how much ammo they have in their guns whenever they’re facing off against the undead hordes.
Sticking to the hardcore vibes, Undead Chronicles will not have a map or a waypoint. Players will have to figure out where to go by reading notes and finding clues in the environment. And like how Resident Evil games have all kinds of files for players to read that expand their lore, Undead Chronicles will have similar collectibles lying about.
It seems many horror fans are sold on the Undead Chronicles concept and excited to play it for themselves, as the game has amassed over 50,000 wishlists at last count. The hardcore angle sounds like it could lead to a unique zombie game experience that helps Undead Chronicles stand out from the crowd, but the trick will be finding the balance between tension and frustration. Again, no release date for Undead Chronicles has been announced at the time of this writing, but horror fans should be able to expect more information on this very promising game to come to light in the weeks and months ahead.
