After five seasons of exploding bodies, sharp satire, and increasingly wild plot twists, many fans assumed The Boys would be running out of steam. The response to Season 5 certainly hinted at that possibility, as the installment had viewers divided over the show’s pacing, consistency, and plot. However, Prime Video’s Vought Rising trailer has immediately changed that conversation. Rather than feeling like a cheap attempt to keep the IP alive, the Jensen Ackles-led series looks like a fresh evolution of the franchise. By shifting the story back to the 1950s and examining the rise of Vought International, the new trailer proves there are plenty of stories left to tell within the twisted superhero universe.
The official The Boys X (formerly Twitter) account shared the new trailer in May, with the prequel documenting the infancy stages of the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that dominates the current timeline. Vought Rising is slated to premiere in 2027, although the exact release date is yet to be confirmed. The incredibly hilarious and edgy Soldier Boy will be front and center in the prequel to The Boys and Gen V, and fans couldn’t be more excited.
The Boys Is Officially Over: 5 Anti-Superhero Games To Bring Out That Homelander In You
If you want to be bad and feel powerful, these are the “superhero” games for you. Be your worst and make The Boys’ Homelander proud.
Soldier Boy is the Perfect Main Character For a Prequel Series
The trailer wastes no time establishing a completely different tone from The Boys. While the original series embraced political chaos and celebrity satire, Vought Rising is poised to lean heavily into Cold War paranoia, noir aesthetics, and retro Americana. Neon-lit streets, smoky bars, propaganda-heavy speeches, and disturbing medical experiments dominate the trailer, giving the series a darker energy. Just as exciting as it is that Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy will be the focus of Vought Rising is the prospect of another popular but detestable character, Stormfront (played by Aya Kash), returning after she was killed off in The Boys Season 2. The prequel hints at an uneasy alliance between the two as Vought begins shaping the new generation of Supes through early Compound V experimentation. Fans will also get to see Soldier Boy’s original squad and his eventual Jesus-Judas moment at the hands of his team.
Soldier Boy is a great choice for Vought Rising, given that he was one of many characters left in the dust by The Boys Season 5, alongside his grandson Ryan. His twisted charm and deep flaws made him an instant hit with The Boys fans. While it is almost impossible to replace a character like Homelander, who had a magnetic screen presence, Ben (Soldier Boy) comes the closest. Rather than revisiting the same conflicts between Homelander and Billy the Butcher, Vought Rising appears focused on the beginning of the corruption that went on to define the franchise. Joining Ackles and Kash is Mason Dye as Bombsight, Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel, Will Hochman as Torpedo, and KiKi Layne in an undisclosed role.
The Boys Season 5’s Biggest Fumble is This Awkward Storyline
One fumbled storyline has highlighted The Boys Season 5’s biggest weaknesses.
The Boys Season 5 Didn’t Kill the Franchise
Season 5 was the most divisive chapter in The Boys. The show remained wildly popular, but many fans felt the final season struggled to balance its political satire with meaningful character development. As such, Vought Rising feels like an important next step for the franchise, as there’s plenty of room for the writers to tackle lingering questions about Vought’s history, Soldier Boy’s rise, and the creation of the superhero culture. Most importantly, the trailer demonstrates an understanding of what made The Boys so appealing in the first place: unpredictable storytelling mixed with sharp commentary and chaotic characters.
Thanks to this new teaser, it’s clear The Boys still has creative momentum. Between prequel series like Vought Rising, the direct comic adaptation Gen V, or completely new stories like The Boys: Mexico, there’s plenty of proof on how much further success fans can see from The Boys franchise.
