The Dragon Ball Super manga has been on hiatus since February 2025, following the release of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104, a prequel chapter set before the events of the Super Hero Saga that Akira Toriyama had already written before his death. Toyotarou has dropped multiple hints this year that the manga is gearing up to come back – sooner rather than later following a recent update from V-Jump and Shueisha.
Earlier this month, a Japanese fan on X tweeted about how his son wants Toyotarou to draw more of the Dragon Ball Super manga. Toyotarou saw this post on X, retweeted it, and wrote, “Thank you. I got it.” In a surprising move, V-Jump – the magazine Dragon Ball Super published in – has suddenly shared Toyotarou’s post, which can only mean one thing: the Dragon Ball Super manga is finally coming back.
Shueisha Has Finally Acknowledged the Dragon Ball Super Manga’s Return
The official V-Jump X account abruptly reposting Toyotarou’s tweet that he’s “got it” with regard to the Dragon Ball Super manga’s comeback nearly three weeks later is a major sign that the series’ next arc is on everyone’s mind. Doubly so, as this is the first instance of Shueisha actually acknowledging the manga’s future and it finally coming out of hiatus, beyond just cryptic statements and promo art from Toyotarou.
If all goes well, we’ll be deep into the Black Frieza Saga by this time next year. Another sign that the Dragon Ball Super manga is returning is V-Jump reposting Toyotarou’s recent illustration of Super Saiyan Mr. Satan. Shueisha wouldn’t be giving Toyotarou more visibility if they didn’t have a reason to do so – especially after years of silence. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is rumored to premiere in October, so a fall return for the manga would be perfect for franchise synergy and very much feels in the works.
Big Things Are Coming For Dragon Ball At NYCC
NYCC 2026 will run from October 8 through 11 this year, and with the One Piece anime going on hiatus on October 11 and freeing up its slot on Fuji TV, the event has a real opportunity to premiere Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Episode 1. Dragon Ball will be represented at NYCC, so major news coming out before the weekend it over only makes sense. October is going to be a big month for Dragon Ball.

In their post spotlighting Super Saiyan Hercule, the Official Dragon Ball Site also wrote, “look forward to the next illustration,” with two exclamation points, suggesting we could get a formal manga announcement as early as late September – which would line up perfectly with NYCC’s timing in early October, and the upcoming Burger King collaboration that’ll run through both September & October. Dragon Ball Super‘s future is looking good right now.
