The Pokemon World Championships has announced that it will be held in Singapore in 2027. Fans have been curious about where the annual Pokemon World Championships might go after spending two years in California, and now they have their answer.
While gamers from all over the world have participated in the Pokemon World Championships, the competition has frequently been held in the United States. The event got its start in the US, and has only visited the homeland of Pokemon once in its history. In 2026, The Pokemon World Championships returned to San Francisco, after having previously been hosted there ten years prior in 2016.
Pokemon World Championships 2027 Announced
During the closing ceremony of the Pokemon World Championships, it was announced that the location and dates for 2027’s competition had been determined. In 2027, the competition will return to Asia for the first time in years, and this time it will be held in Singapore, at the Singapore EXPO, the largest convention center in the country. The event will be held from August 13–15, 2027. The last time the event was held in Asia was back in 2023, when the Pokemon World Championships were held in Yokohama in Japan.

Prior to the event, The Pokemon Company’s Director of Global Esports and Events spoke with GameRant about it, and explained why it had stuck around in the United States for so long, and California for two sequential years. The director explained that keeping it in California allowed them to ensure that by simplifying operations, they were able to maximize the success of the event. Further, finding space for such a massive experience with such a turnout annually is an ongoing challenge. Singapore Expo notably offers over 100,000 square meters of indoor space, which should be quite useful for the competition.
However, it remains to be seen if the Pokemon World Championships in 2027 requires quite as much space as was necessary this year. The first-ever PokemonXP fan convention was held alongside the Pokemon World Championships this year, which meant utilizing both the Moscone Center and the Chase Center in San Francisco. PokemonXP isn’t necessarily going to be held every year at the same time as the Pokemon World Championships, but the director also noted that whether the two arrive side-by-side or not, “the show is not getting smaller.” He expected that even without the PokemonXP event, the team would still be aiming for anywhere from 30,000 to 40,000 attendees, which is on-par with what attendance was like in 2025 in Anaheim, California.
Meanwhile, much about PokemonXP’s future remains up in the air at this time. The Pokemon Company reportedly planned to look at the event following its conclusion to determine how often it should be held, and whether changes need to be made before a second year. Whether the Pokemon World Championships will return to the United States or even California in the future is undecided at this time. Fans can expect more details to be announced regarding the Singapore 2027 event in the months to come, as well as information on qualifying to compete, for those who are interested.
