Deadline reports that Colman Domingo is in talks to co-write a live-action movie focused on Princess and the Frog protagonist Tiana alongside playwright and director Robert O’Hara.
Thus far, not much else is known about the project, which marks the latest in Disney’s string of live-action adaptations — a trend that’s not been exactly profitable for the House of Mouse.
2026’s Moana notoriously bombed at the box office, earning an approximate global total of $95 million from its opening weekend in July. This follows the similarly snoozy start to 2025’s Snow White remake, which earned $87.3 million globally on its opening weekend last March.
Despite these underwhelming numbers and middling reviews, Disney seems to be moving full-speed ahead toward even more live-action remakes. A new Tangled is in the works, with Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim to play Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Andor’s Diego Luna has also been cast in an as-yet unspecified role specific to the movie, while Scarlett Johansson, who was reportedly in talks to play Mother Gothel, is no longer involved in the project.
Other live-action flicks in Disney’s schedule include Bambi, Hercules, and even a Gaston spinoff movie.
The forthcoming Hercules film, with Joe and Anthony Russo producing, is set to put a “modern spin” on the beloved Disney classic with the goal of telling a “different story,” similar to what appears to be happening with Domingo and O’Hara’s Tiana-focused adventure.
