Rogue Trader: Ancient Bunker Guide

Rogue Trader: Ancient Bunker Guide

The Ancient Bunker on Oasis V is a decrepit Imperial facility that players will have to scour if they want to finish one of Jae’s companion quests in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. There’s only one optional combat encounter here, but the true killer that you’ll have to deal with is the toxic gas blanketing the bunker. You won’t have much time to explore this area in Rogue Trader, so here’s a guide on where to find the most important bits of loot inside the Ancient Bunker.

Here’s an early build and playstyle guide for Abelard, your trusty right-hand man in WH40K: Rogue Trader.

Before you enter the Ancient Bunker, I highly recommend bringing Pasqal along. Make sure he has high Tech-Use so he can open the majority of the doors for you. If you didn’t bring Pasqal, or if his Tech-Use stat isn’t high enough, make sure to grab the keys noted on the map above.

The Worn Seal is the biggest reason many players will go to the Ancient Bunker, and you can get it by opening one of the lockers past the shower room in the western part of the facility. Blow open the main door, take the first left down the corridor, enter the showers, then open the locked door leading to a maintenance room. The Worn Seal is inside one of the lockers there.

The gas inside the bunker will constantly damage your characters (including your familiars) while they’re inside, but I wouldn’t worry much about this. If your retinue’s health falls critically low, just go back to the Voidship, then enter the Ancient Bunker again. Still, if you want to remove the gas, there is a way.

From the maintenance room, head to the north of the hallway outside, then open the second door to the right to find a boiler room and room with a Cogitator that controls the ventilation system. If you want to purge the toxic gas in the bunker, do the following:

  1. Pick up the valve next to the Cogitator (if you don’t have one already)
  2. Place the valve on the vertical pipe close to the boiler room’s main entrance
  3. Interact with the newly-placed valve
  4. Interact with the Cogitator
  5. Activate the emergency ventilation system via the Cogitator

The gas should now be purged, and you’ll be able to loot the bunker without fear of having your lungs liquefied.

Apart from the various miscellaneous goods that you can use to gain reputation with Rogue Trader’s factions, you can get two unique items from the Ancient Bunker:

  • The Sworn Protector Las Gun grants its user +1 resolve for each enemy killed until the end of combat. This weapon can only be used by characters with the Iconoclast — Adherent alignment.
  • The Combi-Tool grants +10 Tech-Use to its wearer, allowing them to pass more difficult skill checks. This is best given to characters who already have a high Tech-Use skill value, such as Pasqal.

Admittedly, neither of these items are very good. The Sworn Protector loses much of its power by the tail-end of Act 2, and the Combi-Tool doesn’t offer much in actual combat.

You can also find three different items that will give you more info on what happened to the denizens of the bunker. Long story short, the Ancient Bunker is a reference to the original Fallout game.
