Solo Leveling officially took off back in 2016 as a web novel by the author Chugong. Back then, the series was almost unheard of, but it quickly climbed up the ladder, thanks to its manhwa adaptation by Redice Studio and, more recently, its TV anime by Japanese studios Aniplex and A-1 Pictures. So far, Solo Leveling has received two anime seasons. The first season came out in 2024, and the second followed in 2025. The sequel to the TV anime was officially announced at Anime Expo 2026, on July 5. A-1 Pictures finally revealed, after a year-long wait, that the next project featuring Sung Jinwoo was not going to be a third TV anime season; instead, the studio officially confirmed that they were moving ahead with a movie release slated to hit theatres in 2027. Alongside this announcement, we received a new Key Visual as well as a concept trailer.
To say this movie will be revolutionary for the Solo Leveling franchise would be an understatement. Solo Leveling is already quite popular all around the world, but it has yet to reach the peak of anime and reach levels of popularity akin to Dragon Ball, One Piece, or Naruto in Japan. The series still has a long way to go, and this is where Solo Leveling: Beyond the System will change everything. As of late, Anime movies have proven to generate more hype than TV seasons, as proven by Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, which premiered in 2025. A Solo Leveling movie would propel the franchise to new heights, but it also comes with its own set of downsides.
If the next Solo Leveling movie is massively successful, this will be an incentive for the studios behind it, Aniplex and A-1 Pictures, to push the TV anime to the side and instead focus on large-scale, theatrical releases. However, movie adaptations also come with the disadvantage of a limited runtime. The longer anime movies typically do not go over two and a half hours. In the grand scheme of things, that means that a lot of content usually gets cut out or is reduced to fit the runtime.
For Solo Leveling, this could mean the exclusion of great moments, like Jinwoo developing his relationship with his Shadows, along with other interesting characters. If Beyond the System is very successful, we could potentially be bidding farewell to the TV anime of Solo Leveling forever. This means that arcs like the International Guild Conference and the Monarchs War could instead be adapted into movies as well. Naturally, some fans would love to instead get a TV anime adaptation that fully fleshes out each character and their motives.
Solo Leveling: Beyond the System Has The Potential To Become One Of The Highest Grossing Anime Movies
Solo Leveling is one of the most promising new anime franchises. Jinwoo’s story blew up out of nowhere in 2024, and quickly rose to become Crunchyroll’s biggest anime hit of all time, surpassing 1 million user ratings, which puts it far ahead of even the likes of One Piece and Demon Slayer.
With so much popularity and hype behind it, there is practically no chance of the upcoming Solo Leveling movie, Beyond the System, flopping. We already know that Solo Leveling: Beyond the System is going to be a smashing guaranteed hit, especially right now, when anime movies are at their peak popularity. With such massive potential, we could see Solo Leveling: Beyond the System not only succeed but become one of the biggest Box Office hits internationally.
Its domestic success in Japan is certainly going to be big, but what will likely take it to the next level will be its international success, especially in countries like South Korea, China, and the United States of America, where Solo Leveling is incredibly popular. While it might not live up to being as big as Infinity Castle, it could definitely, at the very least, break into the top 10.
Solo Leveling: Beyond The System – What We Know And What To Expect
Solo Leveling: Beyond The System was first announced around a month ago. So far, information concerning this project is rather limited. Most of the information we have concerning this new project comes to us via Anime Expo 2026. What we do know for certain is that this movie is set to release in 2027. The exact date, however, remains a complete mystery. We hope to see an early 2027 release, especially when taking into consideration how long it’s been since Season 2 aired.
At the moment, we don’t know for certain how many arcs Solo Leveling: Beyond the System will cover. Based on the name of the movie itself, it will likely cover the Ahjin Guild arc as well as the Return to the Double Dungeon arc, where Jinwoo is finally faced with the truth about the system, along with much more.
All things considered, this movie will pit Jinwoo against his biggest challenge yet, and that’s something we’re eagerly waiting to see. Based on the short trailer we’ve received, the quality is on a whole other level. A-1 Pictures is clearly betting big on the success of this movie, and we can’t wait for Jinwoo’s big comeback after a 2-year absence.
