New way:
Every time I take my Steam Deck out for some gaming, I thank my lucky stars I bought mine before the price abruptly jumped up by $300. As it’s powering up, I stare down at it in my lap, uttering a silent prayer nothing will happen to my newly precious little handheld PC—because I sure as hell ain’t gonna spend $800+ to replace it.
That’s got me thinking: maybe I need to safeguard my sweet, fragile Deck with a protective shell, like the sort you might find on your average smartphone or ninja turtle. Hello, Jsaux PC0104 ModCase! I see you’re on sale for 20% off for Prime Day. Perfect.
This protective case fits both the original LCD and the newer OLED models of Steam Deck. It’s got a durable back shell for extra drop protection, and a detachable front shell you can snap on when you’re not using it or transporting it, which will protect the screen and sticks from damage. The case is “impact resistant” and made from “eco-friendly PC-ABS and shock-absorbent TPU,” with textured edges for improved grip.
I do notice there’s nothing to protect the screen from scratches while you’re actually gaming on the Deck with this case, so below I’ve thrown in another Prime Day deal from Jsaux, also 20% off, for a tempered glass screen protector. I know getting a scratch or a chip on your screen won’t render your Steam Deck inoperable, but it can’t hurt to cover all the bases.
Hardware is so ridiculously expensive right now that a little accident like dropping your Steam Deck, or dropping something on top of it, would really set you back. Until prices come back down to Earth, it’s not a bad idea to protect and preserve the hardware you’ve got for as long as you can.
