Steam Users Have Until September 23 to Claim 2022 Space RTS Game Completely Free of Charge

Steam users can now grab the 2022 space RTS Space Menace completely free of charge. The giveaway is part of Steam’s Free to Keep promotion, which often gives away new titles for free so gamers can bulk up their libraries.

Space Menace originally launched in November 2022 as the first title from developer Only4Gamers. Since then, the studio has also launched a 2025 sequel, Space Menace 2, as well as AstroDig, a 2D sci-fi mining strategy game, in 2026. Until now, all of its games have been smaller releases, but participation in Steam’s Free to Keep promotion will certainly help expose the game to a much wider audience.

Space Menace is Free to Keep on Steam

On Steam, players can now add Space Menace to their gaming libraries completely free of charge as part of the regular Free to Keep promotion. It is usually priced at $6.99, so it’s not the most expensive to buy at full price, but a free game is always going to be appreciated. The giveaway is available to claim until September 23, so it’s a limited window for gamers to take advantage. There is no pressure to immediately install the game, as once it has been added to the library by pressing the “Add to Library” button on the Steam store page, it is kept forever.

The game itself is described as a “sci-fi space RTS and battle game,” where gamers “play as a space captain, seeking fortune and glory as you see fit.” Starting off with just one ship, players will expand their fleet through resource gathering, top-down 2D space battles, and completing freelance missions. For completionists, Space Menace even has seven Steam achievements to unlock during gameplay. There’s a lot to the game, which is great considering it’s now 100% free to keep.

Space Menace Key Features

  • 2D top-down RTS combat
  • Freelance missions to complete
  • Resource gathering
  • Upgrade and expand the fleet of ships
  • Deep loadout options for extensive ship customization

In terms of the reviews, Space Menace currently has a “Mixed” rating on Steam. Some reviews point out that things get a little repetitive once the fleet is upgraded, meaning it might not have the longevity of other similar games. However, as a new free Steam game, players can decide for themselves without spending a cent.

It’s always worth keeping an eye out for what’s coming next in Steam’s Free to Keep promotion. Valve doesn’t tend to promote these giveaways widely, so it’s up to gamers to make sure they notice and grab them while they’re available. It’s rare to have nothing to claim at any given time, so it’s always worth checking what’s up for grabs 100% free on Steam.
