Steam’s Next Free-to-Keep Game for August 2026 Revealed Ahead of Time

Steam’s Next Free-to-Keep Game for August 2026 Revealed Ahead of Time

Thanks to an indie developer’s early alert, users already know and can wishlist Steam‘s next free-to-keep game, which is an interesting Pokemon-like RPG called Dokimon Quest. Fans usually discover Steam’s free games early using tools like SteamDB, but this particularly discovery was made possible by the developer’s heads-up.

Freebie hunters likely know that August hasn’t exactly been the best month for new free-to-keep promotions on Steam. Right now, until August 20, players can claim and keep Deponia, a classic point-and-click adventure. Before Deponia, they could add Moonlighter to their libraries for free, a dungeon crawler with cute visuals. Now, one more game is confirmed for Steam’s FTK promos in August.

Steam’s Next Free-to-Keep Game Is a Pokemon-Inspired RPG

Developer Yanako RPGs confirmed on social media that Dokimon Quest will join Steam’s free-to-keep games on August 24, giving fans 48 hours to claim it. In other words, the promotion will likely end on August 26 at 09:59 AM. Dokimon Quest normally costs $7.99 USD on Steam, with a DLC that brings the total to about $11. As the name implies, Dokimon Quest looks a lot like Pokemon games from the Game Boy Color era and is indeed categorized as a turn-based monster-taming role-playing game.

Dokimon Quest features over 140 monsters, some of which might remind players of iconic Pokemon like Eevee. The game also includes rare versions of some monsters, comparable to the shiny, legendary, and other rare catches in the Pokemon series. The similarities between Dokimon Quest and Pokemon don’t end there, either. According to Yanako RPGs, players can also battle other Rangers and capture their bonded monsters, which should be a familiar mechanic for fans of Nintendo’s pocket monsters.

For those interested in Pokemon-like games with a rich story, Dokimon Quest offers 15 to 20 hours of scripted content. After completing the main campaign, players can keep exploring the world in search of rare monsters or fight other Rangers to collect the strongest creatures. The game also offers visual customization options, including different retro color palettes that change how the world looks and feels. Dokimon Quest has also earned a Mostly Positive average user review score on Steam, giving fans of the genre another good reason to keep an eye on its upcoming promotion.

Other Free PC Games to Collect in August and September

At the time of writing, Steam’s official free-to-keep promotions don’t have much to offer beyond Deponia and the upcoming Dokimon Quest giveaway. However, players can head to Legion Gaming Community and participate in two different key drop events that may give them two free games. On August 19, Legion Gaming Community is giving away The Walking Dead, an episodic adventure based on the famous AMC show. Later, the company will drop keys for Before Your Eyes on September 2, a first-person narrative adventure with overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam.
