Take-Two Gives New Official Statement on GTA 6 Leaks Investigation

Take-Two Interactive has given another official update on the ongoing GTA 6 leaks investigation. While the widespread leaks for Grand Theft Auto 6 may be over now, publisher Take-Two is still hard at work to identify the source as the investigation ramps up.

Prior to GTA 6‘s Extended Look on August 27, Rockstar and Take-Two, after years of development, faced the nightmare scenario. A leaker known only as Cyberleek, who appeared to have a fairly recent build of the game in their possession, began posting GTA 6 leaks online on a daily basis. These have since stopped, luckily before giving away story spoilers as many had feared. Despite this, Take-Two remains relentless in its chase to track down the initial source of the leaks.

Take-Two Says GTA 6 Leaks Investigation “Rapidly Evolving” With Second Discord Subpoena

As reported by Torrent Freak, Take-Two Interactive has officially filed a second subpoena with Discord, following its first earlier in August 2026. While details of the first were publicly available, the second has been served with a request to be filed under seal. This means that the servers and users that Take-Two is requesting information on are not available to the public. However, the initial request does reveal that Take-Two has “identified one additional Discord user and obtained additional identifying information for a previously identified Discord user, as well as additional information concerning the community servers identified in its prior subpoena for which it now seeks more targeted information.”

According to Take-Two, the investigation into the GTA 6 leaks “is rapidly evolving and ongoing.” It also argues that hiding the details of the second subpoena from the public is necessary, as “public disclosure of this information could compromise Take-Two’s ongoing investigation and even tip off the alleged infringers as to the nature and progress of Take-Two’s investigation and information Take-Two has gathered about the infringement.” The publisher has also since withdrawn a subpoena request to YouTube regarding three users allegedly linked to one of the leaked videos, suggesting it “no longer needs” the information.

In the wake of the leaks, Rockstar Games described the situation as “heartbreaking” for the GTA 6 development team, pointing out how, after so many years working on the game, this wasn’t how it wanted fans to get an extended glimpse at gameplay. A similar thing happened back in 2022, when another leak confirmed the existence of the game and revealed early gameplay. It’s been very unfortunate, and Rockstar’s understandable secrecy surrounding the project has only made the leaks all the more heartbreaking.

Now that GTA 6‘s marketing is in full swing, gamers can expect tons of new content between now and the game’s November 19, 2026, launch date. Rockstar recently released three new GTA 6 screenshots, offering more looks at protagonists Jason and Lucia, as well as the stunning Vice City. It’s going to be an exciting few months.
