In the Where Loyalty Lies quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker, Crake, the leader of the Manumits, demands that if Coen wants to join the rebels to save his family, he needs to increase his infamy and achieve the “Notorious” status in the valley. Here’s how you can do it.
How to Increase Notoriety in The Blood of Dawnwalker
How to Join the Manumits
To join the Manumits, you have to increase your Infamy to “Notorious.” This corresponds to the 4th level of Infamy, marked by the “IV” icon in the Court tab’s Infamy tracking bar. The easiest way to do this quickly is by completing sabotage quests targeted at Brencis’s boyars. As the weakest among them, Ambrus is the best target to go after first.
To do this, first climb the towers in Leslea Glen, Briar Sloughs, Maragir Wealds, and St. Tyna’s Grove at night to reveal all points of interest in these areas, shown as “?” icons on the map. Then, go to these icons one by one to discover sabotage quests that have you destroy Ambrus’s operation.
At each notoriety milestone, Brencis will issue Infamy Edicts to make life harder for Coen by tightening security and assigning more soldiers to patrol the valley. This can make the game quite difficult if you’re not ready to handle the pressure. Proceed with caution.
As you complete these quests, Ambrus’s anger level will rise, and so will your infamy levels. Once Ambrus becomes angry enough, you’ll unlock the “The Gilded Gauntlet” quest in the Maragir region, where you’ll be able to kill Ambrus.
After killing Ambrus, you should be around level 3 Infamy. To reach level 4 and unlock Notorious, there are two methods you can use:
- Sabotage Bakir: Find missions related to Bakir in his fiefdoms, just like with Ambrus, to slowly raise your infamy.
- Kill Xanthe: Xanthe can be found in the Cathedral Complex in Svartrau City, which you can enter at night by climbing the scaffolding using the Shadowstep ability. Unlike Ambrus or Bakir, you don’t need to draw Xanthe out of her hiding hole to kill her. She’s out in the open, and you can kill her directly without doing any of her missions. If you do kill Xanthe, your Infamy will go up by a full level instantly, enough to become Notorious.
Where Loyalty Lies Walkthrough in The Blood of Dawnwalker
Head to the Svartrau Plaza by Daylight
After you increase your Infamy to Notorious, the Where Loyalty Lies quest log will update to give you a new objective: head to the Svartrau Plaza by daylight. Wait for daytime and head to the quest marker to meet Sara, who will lead you to the Manumits’ hideout where Coen will become an official member of the rebels.
Immediately afterward, Crake will order you to find out what happened to some of his scouts who have gone missing. A party of five went out on a mission, but only one, Loyas, returned.
Search for the House with the Pink Facade
Switch to the quest objective that says “Seek out the house with the pink facade” and head to the quest marker. Look for a large building with a pink outer wall in the search circle, and you’ll find it easily.
Search For Clues Inside the House
Enter through the front door and climb up to the top level using the stairs. Investigate the clues littered about on the top floor to piece together what happened to the scouts. When you interact with the window, Coen will see that there is a large pool of blood on the road in front of the building.
Follow the Blood Trail
Exit the building and follow the trail of the blood using focus mode. It will lead you to a house in the middens that has a locked door.
Find Your Way Inside the Warehouse
Circle around the house and climb up the boxes that are stacked up next to the house’s walls. Jump through the hole in the roof to enter the building.
Check If Anyone Survived
Investigate the two dead bodies inside the house to find clues about what happened. Then, open the main door and exit to the courtyard, where you’ll find another dead body and a scout who is near death.
Talk to the scout and exhaust his dialogue to learn about a large beast with “wings” who massacred the scout team, and that you need to tell Crake about something called “Teotim.”
Defeat the Soldiers
As you finish up talking, a group of Brencis’s soldiers will swarm the courtyard. Defeat the soldiers to complete the “Where Loyalty Lies” quest, automatically triggering the next quest in this chain: “What Hunts the Night.”
Loot Brencis’s soldiers to discover a letter showing that Loyas, the scout who managed to sneak away, did not betray the Manumits. He was just stupid enough to lead the soldiers right to where the scouts were set up.
