You’d think that the nerf to Ines is not that big of a deal, and that TFD, as a whole, is still good. Unfortunately, a lot of people would not agree with you, as the recent reviews ofThe First Descendant dropped to “Mostly Negative” on Steam after the aforementioned changes.
While not having the best Metacritic score (57/100), TFD still has a lot of players who enjoy the game. There is something satisfying in running around and blasting countless enemies with just a few clicks. The game had its ups and downs, but it is still generally liked by gamers everywhere (mostly due to the design of the female Descendants, but that is a different topic). However, gamers are a fickle bunch, and even the slightest change to their gaming experience can make them spiral out of control.
The Recent Changes to Ines Lowered The First Descendant Recent Reviews to Mostly Negative
It is already well known that some parts of the community were unhappy with the Ines nerf, to say the least. Many of them chose to leave the game, since “their favorite character got ruined”. On the other hand, others claim that the nerf is not so bad and that the first group is overreacting, and that has split the community. In any case, the disgruntled ones chose to make their dissatisfaction known, and now TFD’s “Recent Reviews” section on Steam has dropped to “Mostly Negative”.
According to Steam, about 64% of the reviews in the last 30 days are negative, with the majority of them written on April 3 and April 4. As you can expect, almost all of them are about the Ines nerf. The main issue is that Nexon promised never to nerf characters, and now the players feel a bit betrayed by the developers. Add the fact that a lot of them have sunk time and money into Ines, and you can understand where all of this is coming from.

“Today, they rolled out their first nerf and it’s extreme. They took a fun, enjoyable character and turned them into an unplayable cancer to control. The time, resources, and even real money spent on their skins? Completely disregarded.” says one of the reviews.
Overreacting?
In all seriousness, we think it is a bit too much to give a negative score to the whole game, based on one nerf to someone’s “favorite” character. Let’s be real, she’s a favorite because of her ability to destroy everything (and her design). We sincerely doubt that those who claim Ines is their “favorite” know something about her background (that she has a sibling named Emilio, or that her mother’s name is Carmen). This all sounds more like sunk-cost fallacy than people being really invested in Ines Raya (with some exceptions, of course).
As it stands now, the overall “score” of TFD on Steam is “Mixed”, with only 56% of all the reviews being positive. However, the next devlive broadcast is right around the corner, and the devs did mention that they will talk about the character rebalance direction. Nexon was silent during the whole debacle, so we will finally hear their thought on the whole situation.
