This Beloved Modern Horror Romance Gets Ghoulish New Thrilljoy Figures

Cult films have existed since the dawn of the moving picture. Films that don’t resonate with audiences or bomb in theaters only to get a second life later on are nothing now for the medium. That’s especially true when it comes to the horror genre. When the term “modern cult classic” comes up in a conversation, demented tales like Diablo Cody’s Jennifer’s Body are usually one of the first films mentioned.

However, there’s another Cody-written horror comedy that entered this hotly-debated topic more recently – Lisa Frankenstein, directed by Zelda Williams. Now, after a few years, the colorful “Zom-Com” has finally received its first ghoulish collectibles.

Lisa & The Creature Come to Life

Lisa Swallows aka “Lisa Frankenstein” (Kathryn Newton) and her undead mate (Cole Sprouse) will be the next horror icons to be getting vinyl figures from Thrilljoy. A part of the company’s PIX! Collection, these around five-inch figures are their usual blind boxes. Lisa is, of course, its bloody centerpiece. The common “Hero” figure is of Lisa, dubbed the “Goth Queen”, with her killer sunglasses, while the “Chase” features no sunglasses and Lisa holding her signature axe from the film. Both Lisa figures feature this lonely, hopeless romantic in her now-legendary black dress. The “Ultra Chase” will be the only way fans can get The Creature. The regular Chase has a 1/6 chance of being pulled. The entire set is limited to the very appropriate number of 6666 pieces. Lisa and The Creature now join other horror favorites like Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Pennywise in Thrilljoy’s ever-growing collection.

While Lisa Frankenstein received a Blu-ray after its short theatrical run and its catchy 80s-inspired gothic soundtrack got a Vinyl, this misadventure has got very little to show for itself in terms of merchandise. Surprisingly, there have been no collectibles like Funko Pops to keep Lisa’s insane glee in the public eye. That’s why these Thrilljoy figures are so exciting. Lisa Frankenstein split critics right down the middle with a 52% on Rotten Tomatoes and only made $9.9 million worldwide. Despite that, the legend of this kooky horror rom-com is only growing. Its colorful and tragic love story was too creative for that not to happen. Lisa Frankenstein reminded genre fans that there’s nothing better than a great heartfelt horror romance. These Thrilljoy figures are a great excuse to either rewatch this cult masterpiece or take in its memorably vibrant lead performances for the first time.
