Universal Tower Defense X Tier List [🏴‍☠️UPD 3]

Updated on May 19, 2026: Reranked for Update 3 Part 1: Clash of Wills (One Piece/Huge Powercreep).

The best units in Universal Tower Defense X depend on five categories which are Hybrid, Hill, Ground, Support and Farm. I’ll show you the best ones for all roles as well as talk about the best game modes, traits and relics for all units. Here’s my Universal Tower Defense X tier list and guide.

Universal Tower Defense X Unit Tier List

This is just a preview of the Universal Tower Defense X tier list but the real ranking reasons are below. I’ll go into each individual unit and talk about why it’s ranked where it is, as well as the best game modes or builds for it and specific traits. Note that I won’t go much into ranking for progression since any unit can be good to progress with if you upgrade and Etherealize it with some Relics equipped. I’ll focus more on Nightmare, Infinite, Challenges, Virtual Realm, Events, etc. As for the tier breakdowns, consider the S-Tier as the META tier with the A-Tier being great alternatives, the B-Tier being situational options and C/D being less optimal for the current Meta.

How to Synchro Fuse Units: You need both units at max upgrade either owned by you or another player via request – The Synchro unit takes the stats, traits and relics from only one unit of the Synchro Drive.

How to Synchro Clash: Both units must be at max upgrade and in each other’s range to trigger the combined Synchro Clash attack.

Universal Tears: Tears appear in the lobby every 3 hours on a fixed cycle and stay for 3 hours before rotating out (Needed for Gojo and Sukuna base forms).

Farm: Bulme (Legendary) & Fastcart (Epic)

Farm Unit Tips: If you’re going for Synchro, run both farm units since you need to rush upgrades. If not, Bulma is enough due to recent buffs so you have more room for another DPS or Support.

Synchro Units – Massive DPS

Unparalleled Armor	Synchro Drive Nutaru (Beast) + Ancient Shinobi (Reawakened) The best Synchro unit overall Synchro units have the best DPS in the game but cost 2 units It’s usually worth it with similar value as removing placements for more DPS with Ruler Notes: The best due to applying a 3s Stun/Confused on every attack + breaking armor
Majestic Armor	Synchro Drive Nutaru (Beast) + Sasku (Great War) The second best Synchro unit Notes: I prefer Unparalleled Armor for CC but Majestic deals pretty good damage with a ton of crit damage and DoTs on-hit
Underworld God Synchro	Synchro Drive Underworld God (Death) + Water God (Primordial) The third best Synchro unit Notes: Really good self-DPS boosting buffs and armor damage plus debuff cleanse
Jane Juliet & Mimicry Sorcerer Synchro Clash	These two units have a Synchro Clash Attack when at max upgrade and in each other’s range. Since this is not a Synchro unit but an attack, I won’t rank it here and instead talk about it in these unit’s entries Effect: Combined Beam Attack dealing 500% of the average damage between the two [(Yuta + Ryu) Damage / 2] x 5

S-Tier Air/Hybrid

S-Tier Air/Hybrid	Rankings Explained
Joyful Captain Universal Unit From Universal Festive Banner 3 Passive Lists Depending on which path you take	• Can be one of the best DPS and Support units depending on the path • Top path is best for massive Full AOE DPS • You can also run him as a DPS/Hybrid Support with the middle path for a ton of DMG amplification and knockbacks • I would avoid the bottom path since it doesn’t excel at much • Make sure to have elemental synergies in mind for the 2.5x more with ADV and 5x less with DISADV in terms of elemental interactions Best Trait: Ruler or Duelist Best Relic: Warlord Set + Warlord Hat CDMG/DMG/EDMG Best Substats: All DMG Best Substats: CRATE/CDMG/CD
Dragon Warlord (Rage) Secret Unit Emperor’s Kingdom World Raid 8% chance	• Dragon Warlord is amazing for macro with massive Hybrid DPS and CC • Excellent boss-killer with follow-up attacks • Requires macro/manual control for full potential in Dragon Form Best Trait: Ruler or Duelist Best Relic: Warlord Set + Shadow Reaper Necklace CDMG/DMG/EDMG Best Substats: All DMG Best Substats: Crit/DMG/CD/DoT + DoT/CD
Gluttonous Warlord (Despair) Secret Unit Warlord’s Ship Raid 5% chance	• A summon-based DPS with some of the best DoTs in the game • Most of your damage comes from summon follow-up attacks Best Trait: Ruler or Astral/Sacred Best Relic: Warlord Set + Monarch Cape CDMG/DMG/EDMG Best Substats: All DMG Best Substats: CDMG/Crit/DMG + DoT/CD
The Strongest in History Boundless Evo Cursed Vessel (Shrine) Unit/Evo Material from Red Tear	• While all Boundless units are top-tier useful, TSIH Sukuna is the strongest in terms of DPS • Sukuna out-DPS-es King Sailor and Gojo with Mahoraga and Agito but has less CC/debuffs than Gojo • SJW Boundless can compete if you build around it with Ant King and Igris but Sukuna is stronger in base • With all the stacking buffs, debuffs and summon attacks, this is the strongest non-Synchro unit in the game • Just the sheer DoT DPS, the Domain and having two summons at once on full upgrade is crazy good • Best Trait: Ruler • Best Relics: Monarch Set with Sorcerer Hunter Spirit DMG/DMG/E.DMG (Monarch Set is from Throne Chamber Raid) • Best Substat: Cooldown Relics/DMG-CD for Accessories
Jinoo, Shadow Monarch Boundless Evo Jinoo (Monarch)	• By himself Boundless SJW is weaker than Boundless Sukuna, Gojo and King Sailor • That said if you build around his synergies with Igris and Ant King he becomes much stronger • Plus all the Shadows have been massively buffed so he’s a Meta unit • But keep in mind that the value you get from synergies are shared between those units so you can think of it like a mini-Synchro • The good news is that Ant King is really strong and Igris is pretty good so you don’t lose anything by building around SJW • Best Trait: Ruler • Best Relics: Monarch Set with Accessories DMG/DMG/E.DMG (Monarch Set is from Throne Chamber Raid) • Best Stat & Substat: Full DMG and CD/Range/Crit Rate/Crit DMG
Sharpshooter King (Trapper) Secret Unit Conquered Lands Legend Stage Act 3 3% chance	• A stronger version of Sharpshooter with massive range and great DPS • Places traps while waiting for units to get in range • Overall has a lot of utility with DoTs, stuns and follow-up attacks • Best Trait: Ruler/Astral
Ancient Mage (Sage) Act 3 of Beyond Fantasy Legend Stage Evo item from the same stage	Best trait: Ruler, Astral Best Relic Set: Super Roku Best Stats: CritDMG/DoT Top & CritRate/DMG Bottom Best Accessory: Bloodline Eye Notes: Incredibly flexibile high DPS unit able to switch stat modes for burst damage, debuffs, DoTs and more
Spade (Donut) Mythic Get Flaming Donut Hat ASAP From Marine Base Act 1 Legend Stage For a massive buff	• The best Air/Hill DPS unit now with the Exclusive Hat Relic and one of the best units in the game overall due to the passive on-shield damage • Amazing for progressing story/legend stage since you can get it fast and you need a good Air ASAP • Otherwise great for VR and Infinite as your Hill slot with Ruler as a main DPS or Astral as a secondary DPS • Best trait is Astral since Spade is the best Burn DOT unit in the game right now • Best Trait: Astral or Ruler • Best Relics: Warlord + Donut Hat DoT/DMG/EDMG • Best Substats: DoT/DMG
String Warlord (Joker) Exclusive Blitz Mode Battlepass Tier 15	• High-tier Hill unit with a ton of DPS from his clones • The clones also defend String Warlord from debuffs • Also has great debuffs and control when Birdcage is active for stuns, slows and even more damage • Best Trait: Ruler

A-Tier Air/Hybrid

B-Tier Air/Hybrid	Rankings Explained
Nelle (Primal) Mythic Get Nel’s Spear ASAP From Hollowed Eclipse Raid Shop For a massive buff	• Might be overhyping her exclusive relic but she feels much better now and is less awkward since her baby form doesn’t mess her DPS up anymore • You’re mostly in adult form with the Relic and her damage doesn’t drop off as much • Still not worth running Ichigo, but Nelle by herself is quite a decent hybrid now since the Relic gives her +200% more damage • Best Trait: Ruler
Lord of Flies (Tempered) Banner Mythic	• An overall sub-Meta unit since he deals high burst damage with his Resonance Stacks and can grant stun immunity • Then he can massively buff himself for each unit he gives stun immunity to • You can also choose to nuke enemies in a Full AOE and quickly stack up Resonance every 300 seconds • Also has stun immunity • Best Trait: Ruler
Berserker (Enraged) Mythic	• Much better now in the new update with the fix • Near top DPS unit in the game overall and incredibly useful hybrid due to game mode flexibility, CC and hyper armor damage • Fast ramp-up value • Obliterates armored enemies, slows and increase all damage taken on enemies • Best Trait: Ruler or Sacred
Jinoo (Monarch) Banner Secret	• Shadows buffed and you want him for the Boundless EVO for a Meta unit • Best unit for Infinite due to the massive scaling and decent on VR • Note that he’s better for longer game modes since he takes a while to scale up • Best Trait: Ruler or Eternal
Bio-Android (Perfect) Secret	• Very slow to get going but gets powerful if you have time to evolve him (Gets Hybrid) so he’s better in Infinite • Evolves by beating mini-bosses he spawns and E2 is really good since it reduces the HP of those bosses • You need to reach Perfect state for him to be good (Hybrid+Max Upgrade) though Semi-Perfect does have Confusion which is decent support • Most of the prime DPS comes from high base damage, Sub-Unit summons and the 5% on-hit Line AOE follow up • That said, the active nuke does stun in an AOE which is really strong for bosses and is on a 90s global cooldown • Overall, really slow to get going but is Meta DPS and utility on final evolution
Sharpshooter (Precision) Mythic	• Massive range with decent DPS and a decent amount of off-supporting capabilities (Place her in the back so she’s in Sniper mode) • Can hit enemies across the entire map in Sniper mode with a neat little damage bonus • Amazing for macroing Stages with her high range • She can also mark enemies with her active to take more damage from all sources and buffs Fire unit damage placed near her • Overall the best Hill alternative if you don’t have Jangluu or Lord of Flies • Best Trait: Pick the highest damage trait or Ruler since she doesn’t need extra range from Traits because Sniper mode has infinite range
Koyote (Number One) Mythic	• A Hybrid-on-upgrade DPS machine that spams wolf summons on takedown dealing sustained DPS and charging energy (Especially on E4) • Also has a massive damage burst Nuke that fires on max energy doing 500% damage • Koyote isn’t the best hybrid DPS but he’s good for any mode • Best Trait: Ruler for main DPS or Sacred/Eternal for secondary DPS

C-Tier Air/Hybrid	Rankings Explained
Dragon Guy (Silverite) Challenges Secret	• Got massive buffs to Twin Dragon Hunting Flash, Shatter and Are You Scared helping him in faster modes • He’s not a Meta DPS but he is Meta if you consider him a Hybrid DPS Support mix since he can CC enemies • Great on Virtual Realm and Infinite but takes a while to activate his Trance (This is not as much of a problem anymore due to buffs) • He’s best with units that can apply Freeze since his Shatter deals burst damage on frozen targets • He can also self-cleanse stuns which is really good for Infinite • Best Trait: Ruler or Eternal
Scarlet Maid (World) Get from Virtual Shop	• Similar to Dragon Guy where she’s a hybrid DPS and Support that can now be viable with the December 20 buffs to her skill damage and The World ability • Stuns enemies, has Slows and deals great DPS with Time Gauge stacks which trigger various high damage attacks • The only downside is that her CC needs to be activated by attacking and is not on every attack like other CC units • Great on Infinite • That said, she’s best when you have E6 since the CC lasts for a long time • Best Trait: Ruler or Sacred
Ichiko (Rage) Secret	• Ichiko is good, don’t get me wrong, but he’s just raw DPS with not a lot of utility past the 5-second active stun that’s on a 90s cooldown • Requires a specific build around crit chance and damage to maximize his passive damage and overall DPS (Go full damage on substats) • Still one of the better units in the game, just slightly weaker than the ones above • Best Trait: Ruler or Sacred
Ice Empress (Forst) Winter Capsule Exclusive	• An amazing Meta Support, see why below in the Support section. • B-Tier only in terms of Hybrid DPS

S-Tier Ground	Rankings Explained

Alpha Devil (Omega) Devil Capsule Exclusive From Event	• Both Vergil and Dante have massive range and should be kept near the spawn to constantly attack for transformation and style damage boosts • Vergil is slightly stronger IMO due to Cone stuns with Katana or massive DPS with Demonic Gauntlets • Also great DoT damage with Phantom Sword and Dante/Sukuna DoT team combo • Can be hybrid with Mirage Barrage but that’s a weak weapon, I wouldn’t use it • A perfect combination of high damage and stalling off-Support • Best Traits: Duelist or Ruler • Best Relics: Super Roku Set with Shadow Reaper Accessories DMG/DMG/EDMG Alternative with Bio-Android + Biju • Best Stat & Substats: Full damage + DoT/CD/Crit Rate/Crit Damage
Devil Hunter (Mercenary) Devil Capsule Exclusive From Event	• Incredibly strong if you can keep attacking for style damage boosts and transformations due to massive range • Lots of build flexibility with massive Cone DoT damage with Sword or massive stall potential with Democycle with a DoT team • Can also switch to Fancy Hat in modes where you no longer need cash but it’s not good early • Goes best with Sukuna and Vergil for heavy DoT synergy • Best Traits: Astral or Ruler • Best Relics: Reanimated Set + Spirit Armor/Shadow Reaper DoT/DMG/EDMG • Best Stat & Substats: Full damage + DoT/CD/Crit Rate/Crit Damage
Mochi Pirate (Conqueror) Secret Mirror Dimension Featured Challange 8% Chance	• Mochi Pirate is all about guaranteed crits from his passive • That said he also has a lot of stalling support utility with Time Snail • Very useful Ground unit overall Best Trait: Ruler for DPS/Sacred or Fission for Support Best Relics: Warlord Set + Shadow Reaper Necklace CDMG/DMG/EDMG Best Substats: CDMG/DMG/CD Best Stats: Full DMG

A-Tier Ground	Rankings Explained
Mimicry Sorcerer Secret Legend Stage Act 3	• Overall Yuta has pretty great DPS with Rika who is Hybrid and Mimicry for DoTs or follow up attacks • You mainly want him for the max upgrade Rika summon and Synchro attack with Jane Juliet/Ryu • If you combine him with Ryu he’s bottom Meta or sub-Meta in terms of DPS • The Synchro attack is pretty strong • Otherwise if you don’t combine him with Ryu then I don’t think he’s worth it over other S-Tier Ground DPS units • Best Trait: Ruler
Mighty Roach (Cursed) Exclusive Virtual Realm Shop	• A sleeper hit dealing massive damage but needs to be combined with at least one of the new Domain units • When a Domain is active gains a massive damage buff • Combined with innate AOE damage bursts and follow-up attacks from exploding insects Mighty Roach deals a ton of AOE damage • Get him ASAP and combine him with Gojo which is the best Domain • Best Trait: Ruler

Shadow Knight (Risen) Secret Crimson Throne Chamber Raid	• Unlike Ant King who is good by himself Shadow Knight/Igris is only good if you combine him with SJW/Shadow Monarch • If you do then you get both Igris for free and all upgrades for free since you can just spend on SJW • Also has good supporting abilities with the Stuns and summoned shadow boosts • Overall a sub-Meta unit with Boundless SJW • Best Trait: Ruler • Best Relics: Sorcerer Hunter Set and Sorcerer Hunter Spirit DMG/DMG/E.DMG • Best Substats: CD and Range

C-Tier Ground	Rankings Explained
Judgement Sorcerer (Domain) Banner Mythic	• Weaker DPS potential than Jane/Ryu and Hakari/Gambler but a pretty decent support DPS hybrid with Domain • I would mostly use it for Confusion but the Executioner sword does deal decent damage if you need extra DPS
Fallen Prince (Ruthless) Banner Mythic	• Also a ramp-up unit like Roku and Rohan but unlike them he’s not slow since he gets no damage debuff • He just keeps buffing himself up each wave and kill with damage, crit chance, range and attack speed until he goes Super Saiyan • Once you reach max cap with his crit chance buff (0.25% per kill up to 30%) he goes SS with Hyper Armor Damage and guaranteed crits after a few kills • Overall a very strong Ground unit that’s good for any mode and isn’t that slow like some Cell Update units • Best Trait: Ruler
Dragon Slayer (Hero) All Banners Evo items from Act 1 of Beyond Fantasy Legend Stage	Best Trait: Ruler, Eternal Best Relic Set: Super Roku Best Stats: DMG Both Best Accessory: Reaper Necklace Notes: A decent alt-Meta DPS with great boss damage that increases if boss is stunned or has DoTs
First Human (Father) Featured Challenge Secret	• One of the more flexibile Ground units in the game with his follow-up attack elemental mechanic • Basically you can customize Adam’s attacks by choosing which elemental unit to place near him and have him do follow up attacks • Each element has a different effect from high DPS to debuff support to even Hybrid mode (Light) • Best Trait: Ruler

S-Tier Support	Rankings Explained

Admiral (Magma) Legendary EVO	• The best budget unit in the game since you get it easily as a Legendary and it stays strong in the late-game via EVO • Easily one of the best Fire units in the game • Admiral is good for two reasons, he deals impressive DOT damage but also acts as a support with Confusion • Confusion makes enemies walk back which is amazing stalling for your main DPS units • Best Trait: Fission or Sacred

B-Tier Support	Rankings Explained
Bambee (Blitz) NY Capsule Exclusive	• Deals okay damage but her main strength is flexibility since she applies status effects based on your team’s most used element • These status effects are also better with Bambee since they last longer Water: Slow Wind: Wind Shear Rose: Bleed Dark: Stun Fire: Burn Light: Radiation Ice: Freeze
Rule (ROOM) Exclusive BattlePass Reward Level 50	• versatile support that stuns and teleports enemy units • Decent on all modes but especially on Virtual Realm • Best Trait: Ruler or Eternal
Lulu Quest Secret Check out how to unlock him>	• Our Lulu/Lelouch Quest Guide will show you how to unlock this unit • Lulu is a great support unit when he works that doesn’t attack but instead issues orders based on his cooldown • He can stall units a lot which helps your main DPS units get in more damage • He can also stun enemy units • That said, there’s also some great damage here with the Beam order (Which got buffed) • Great for all game modes and is overall one of the best supports • Laughing Captain Relic set bonus is great on him for reduced active cooldowns • Best Trait: Ruler or Sacred
Tierabel (Hydro) Mythic	• Same as her Hill entry but with a focus on her slowing and supporting capabilities which are decent but not the best • Best Trait: Eternal
Scarlet Maid (World) Get from Virtual Shop	• A hybrid DPS and Support that can now be viable with the December 20 buffs to her skill damage and The World ability • Stuns enemies, has Slows and deals great DPS with Time Gauge stacks which trigger various high damage attacks • The only downside is that her CC needs to be activated by attacking and is not on every attack like other CC units • Great on Infinite • That said, for Support purposes she’s lower on the list since she’s best when you have E6 for a massive duration boost which can be slow to grind • Best Trait: Ruler or Sacred
Mob (100%) Mythic	• Overall a great slowing unit and an always useful Hybrid that got a slight damage buff which adds up fast • Really good for VR and Infinite as a supporting slowing option with Eternal and decent with Ruler as a DPS but I would stick to it as a support/DPS mix • Best Trait: Ruler or Eternal
Shakumira EVO Legendary EVO	• A low DPS unit but offers great support potential with a stalling ability • Not the best unit to EVO for all modes but pretty great on Infinite, especially with the cooldown buff on the CC • Best Trait: Artificer
