Windrose devs ask for some grace as they prepare to set sail towards a six month wait for the next big update

Windrose has been out for a couple of weeks now and seems to be doing more than alright for itself. I guess the people like pirates? Good news for those You Be Soft guys, I suppose. But as much success as Windrose has found itself in, it is also an early access game, which means the aforementioned people crave a nebulous sense of More. Developer Kraken Express do plan on offering More, but it sounds like the people will have to wait for it a little while.

In a Steam blog post, Kraken Express outlined some of the fixes they plan to implement into the game in an upcoming update, while also addressing the next big update. Currently, the plan is to switch to working on this update, which will introduce a new biome called Ashlands, after getting the prerequisite fixes sorted. However, according to the devs, the “scope of what we want to do is rather ambitious, so our best bet right now this update will take at least 6 months to deliver. This might sound like a long time, but we believe it will allow us to roll out an exciting and meaningful expansion to the game of appropriate quality. In other words, we will work very hard so it’s worth the wait.”

This seemingly prompted enough questions that this wait for the next big update was addressed in the game’s Discord server. Addressing those concerns, Kraken Express wrote, “Some time ago we asked you to let us cook, and you did – it is now safe to say it was worth it. Please have faith in us once again, and we will make it worth the wait. Our team was hard at work to roll out this Early Access, and we are not going to slow down. However, all the new content and features we want to deliver takes time, and we do believe it is much better to roll out a big, exciting expansion-like update that you will enjoy exploring than making several small ones that will have much less impact on their own.”

Good for them, I say! Six months doesn’t even sound like enough time for something described as expansion-like, and there’s too much of an impetus to crank things out for the simple sake of More anyway. I’m sure everyone’s Steam backlog is more than big enough to kill some time in other ways. Or you could read a book, or watch a TV show! It could even be about pirates! Just give the devs some grace.
