Fans of spin-off games like Resident Evil: Revelations shouldn’t expect any further entries to the series anytime soon, according to a new interview with a lead Capcom developer. While there will be no shortage of Resident Evil games going forward, Resident Evil: Revelations likely won’t be among them.
It’s been over ten years since a new entry to the Resident Evil: Revelations spin-off series was released. Resident Evil: Revelations 2 brought back series icons like Barry Burton and Claire Redfield in 2015, but fans of it and the original Resident Evil: Revelations have been left waiting for more.
Resident Evil: Revelations Isn’t Coming Back Anytime Soon
According to a new interview between Masachika Kawata and Game Informer (via NintendoEverything), Capcom is simply too busy to put time into games like Resident Evil: Revelations or the Chronicles spin-off series. The good news for fans of the overall franchise is that the team is working towards making Resident Evil an annual franchise, by releasing a mix of remade games and brand-new titles. Kawata noted that there may very well be some fans who are still hoping for the spin-off series to return, but explained that “the team is giving everything it has right now” while working on new games and remakes. He noted that there isn’t much left to work on a spin-off due to the teams pouring their energy into those games. Accordingly, fans shouldn’t expect to see a new Resident Evil: Revelations, Chronicles, or any other spin-off series to return anytime soon.

It’s unfortunate news for those who would like the Resident Evil: Revelations franchise to return. Previously, leaks had indicated that the schedule of Resident Evil releases coming from Capcom had no space reserved for spin-off games, and this new interview cements that as reality. Capcom has officially revealed that Resident Evil: Veronica is on its way in 2027, and leaks have indicated that it will be followed by a remake of Resident Evil Zero, with a brand-new entry arriving the year after that. If nothing changes in the schedule, it sounds like there’s next to no chance of a return to the Resident Evil spin-offs prior to 2030.
While there are no plans for new entries at this point, it’s possible that Capcom could potentially look to games like Resident Evil: Revelations or Umbrella Chronicles someday to maintain its annual schedule. Resident Evil: Revelations launched in 2012, and Umbrella Chronicles released in 2007. While both games were successful in their heyday, the age of the games is also apparent at this point. By the time 2030 rolls around, reviving older Resident Evil games like Revelations, which will be 18 years old by then, or Umbrella Chronicles, at 23 years old, isn’t necessarily out of the question.
However, it remains to be seen if Capcom will eventually continue the core series remakes. The original Resident Evil is rumored to get a remake at some point, and while Resident Evil 5 has been a contentious game, it’s also a tremendously successful one, in terms of sales. If Capcom turns to the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 5 to remake after its current roster is complete, a potential return to spin-offs will become even more uncertain.
