There’s no shame in dying over and over in Leon Must Die Forever, and it shouldn’t deter your attempts at victory. If you need a few tips to push you over the finish line for Leon Must Die Forever, then we’ve got the guide for you. Check out the tips we used to win!

RE9: Leon Must Die Forever, Explained

Leon Must Die Forever is a brand-new (and free) rougelike DLC added to Resident Evil Requiem, and here’s everything you need to know.

Use Leftover Challenge Points on Upgrades

New Special Content Specifically for LMDF Helps Each Run

Use Leftover Challenge Points on Upgrades

  • Med Injectors & Green Herbs can be added to your inventory at the start of every run.

If you’ve acquired a few Challenge Points over your gameplay of the main story, you might have some leftovers that could be useful for aiding you in Leon Must Die Forever. Specifically, Special Content like Green Herb and Med Injector will ensure you start every playthrough with more healing items.

There are other bonuses to exchange CP for, like Ability Boosts, but they only come into play if you find the Enhanced Ability related to said Special Content. As such, purchasing fresh healing supplies is a great way to maintain your health and ensure one mistake doesn’t mean death.

Save Your Ammo and Shoot the Leg

Legshots Let You Kick Zombies to Deal More Damage Without Wasting Bullets

  • Aim for the leg, and you can stun zombies, which allows you to kick them and perform finishers.

Zombies are quite good at tanking headshots, probably because there isn’t much activity in their brains anyway. As such, aiming for the head is only a good idea when using a rifle. When it comes to pistols, which you’re bound to have more ammo for, you should aim for the leg.

Shooting a zombie in the leg will see them get down on one knee, and while stunned, you can press X/A on them to kick them down, which deals more damage than a headshot would. This can also stun other zombies that the zombie kicks into, and the damage is nice for the cost of one bullet instead of multiple in the head.

Plan Your Route

Safety Over Efficiency, Always

  • Rushing to Lv. 20 is an easy way to die, so make sure you check the map to see where you can go next.

Leon Must Die Forever does something interesting where each stage has a level scaling of difficulty, which means the higher the level, the more health and damage an enemy deals. As such, you’ll want to do as many stages as possible to get loot and Enhancement Abilities before facing the final boss:

Level

Stage

Lv. 1

Main Street

Lv. 5

Care Center

Lv. 9

East Raccoon City: Central Camp

Lv. 10

Blister Borne

Lv. 20

Victor

You can check the in-game map to see where your next red door will lead you. Some doors can take you directly to the final boss, whereas others will take you to the next stage. We always recommend doing as many stages as possible to maximize your abilities and weapons, as heading to the boss so soon is a death sentence.

Know How to Beat Red and Blue Enemies

Bullets Aren’t Always the Answer to Some Enemy Types

  • Blue enemies need to be parried with the Hatchet so you can inflict more damage.
  • Red enemies are resistant to gunfire, so use close combat attacks and grenades.

The usual suspects appear in Leon Must Die Forever, but there are a few added enemy variants that have a blue aura and a red aura. Each of these enemy types has a unique buff that might prevent your victory, or it’s another way to waste your time and resources.

When you encounter red enemies, you need to use melee attacks and grenades to deal damage. When you encounter blue enemies, you need to parry them so that they are weakened and able to take more damage from bullets. Knowing how to beat these enemy types will save you time and ammo.

Locate and Shoot Midas Spinners

Golden Spiders Reward More Seconds on the Timer

Locate and Shoot Midas Spinners

  • Midas Spinners extend your remaining time, so looking for them and shooting them is a priority.

Midas Spinners are tiny golden spiders that will often hide in corners and situate themselves just out of view. While you shouldn’t waste time hunting these little arachnids, you should make them a priority when you do catch one within your peripheral vision.

Midas Spinners will increase your allocated time, basically, ensuring that you will have more time on the clock before the game ends. They’re rarely out of the way, they only take one bullet to destroy, and they can add over a minute to your in-game timer.

Loot Like There’s No Tomorrow

Don’t Worry About the Timer, Focus on Looting for Weapons & Ammo

  • Check crates for weapons, loot dead zombies, and boxes for ammo and healing items.

While you are racing against the clock, staying alive is just as important as being late to the finish line (even though being late to the finish line here means you die and you have to start again). While you should focus on your time, you should also focus on looting.

Defeated enemies almost always drop ammo, and weapon crates are scattered around the map to provide you with a randomized arsenal. Just like the main story, Green Herbs and Med Injectors will save your life, so loot up and horde items so you can use them to save your life later in the run.

Consider Each Enhancer Ability Before Going All In

Enhancer Abilities Are Randomized Between a Choice of Three

  • Enhancer Abilities are activated with L1+Triangle after killing enough zombies, and they let you pick 1 of 3 enhancements that can strengthen your gameplay.

Enhancer Abilities are unique to Leon Must Die Forever, and they are acquired simply by earning score by defeating enemies and clearing stages. When you have enough points, you can hit L1+Triangle to enter the Enhancer Abilities menu, which provides you with 3 options of enhancement, but you can only pick one.

Your Enhancer Abilities are completely randomized, so you won’t have the same each run. However, there are some key ones to look out for, so make sure you’re reading each Enhancer Ability before making a choice. For one of our runs, we had the ability to set zombies on fire when we kicked them, which near-instantly killed them all.

Avoid Hatchet Combat Unless Necessary

You Cannot Sharpen the Hatchet Manually

The Hatchet is one of Leon’s most trusted weapons, but not anymore. In Leon Must Die Forever, the Hatchet has limited durability, and you can’t manually repair it like you would in the main story. As such, you should use it sparingly.

The Hatchet needs to be reserved for essential parries to avoid you losing health, and should be mainly kept safe until you reach a boss fight (where parrying can mean the difference between life and death). Don’t worry, you can still use the Hatchet, as repairing durability requires you to find a green Hatchet while exploring.
