Jujutsu Kaisen is a beloved manga and anime series by Gege Akutami. Over the years, it has become a massive IP and one of the most popular anime series worldwide. A big part of that is thanks to its most iconic character, the beloved Gojo Satoru, also known to be the strongest modern sorcerer.
Sadly, in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Part 2, which featured the Shibuya Incident Arc, Gojo Satoru was taken away from us and sealed away in the Prison Realm by Kenjaku. Since then, it has been three years, and while Gojo isn’t returning anytime soon to the anime, we will enjoy his character once again in the new series project — Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Incident Part 1 Stage Play, which has officially been announced for a November 2026 release in Japan. Fans all around the world miss Gojo, so this brief return is more than welcome.
Gojo Satoru Is Officially Returning With New Stage Play for The Shibuya Incident In November 2026
Jujutsu Kaisen, by Japanese creator Gege Akutami, debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump on March 5, 2018, in Issue #12. The manga was popular for a while, but what truly propelled the popularity of the series was its 2020 anime adaptation by MAPPA Studio that brought the story to life through stunning animation and direction. While the story of JJK was always intriguing, the anime wouldn’t be what it is today without the inclusion of Gege Akutami’s most popular character, Gojo Satoru.
Gojo Satoru was introduced to us in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 1 from Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12 of 2018, and immediately, he won over everyone’s hearts. Gojo is charismatic, with his fun and easygoing personality, but he also exudes an aura of invincibility, much of which is down to his Limitless cursed technique and his Six Eyes that he inherited from the Gojo Clan. His powers make him one of the strongest characters around, and fans are always eager to see him in the heat of battle.
Sadly, despite all the love for Gojo, he was cut out from the main plotline very early on in the story in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 9, or in Jujutsu Kaisen manga chapter 90, which was published in WSJ Double Issue #6-7 on January 3, 2020. Gojo Satoru was officially sealed by Kenjaku after the latter used the Prism Realm, a Special Grade cursed object. This was done because his overwhelming strength would have been impossible to overcome in battle. Since the events of Gojo’s sealing, it’s been 3 years, and as seen in JJK Season 3, the beloved sorcerer has yet to be freed, while the main cast is working on it.
With that being said, while we wait for him to return in the anime, a new project will bring him back long before, to give us another glimpse of him. This new project was officially confirmed on July 27, 2026, and it’s the Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Incident Part 1: The Stage Play. The stage play is coming to Japan, and with the name alone, we know it will cover the first part of the Shibuya Incident arc, one of Jujutsu Kaisen’s most iconic story segments. As we all know, Gojo Satoru is extremely important in the first part of Shibuya, so we will see him fight against the likes of Jogo and Hanami once again, before his eventual sealing once more. As far as 2026 goes, this is, undoubtedly, Jujutsu Kaisen’s second-biggest project of the year after its anime return in January with Season 3.
Jujutsu Kaisen stage play is not a new project. It’s been ongoing for a while, and the upcoming Shibuya release will serve as the 5th installment of the show. This official adaptation of JJK as a stage play has been ongoing since 2022, when it adapted the Fearsome Womb Arc, all the way up to the Vs. Mahito Arc. After that, the Stage play returned multiple times, notably in 2023, covering the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc to the Origin of Obedience Arc. In 2024, fans got to see the Cursed Child Arc, and in 2025, the Hidden Inventory Arc. This stage play is quite successful, and we’re sure to see more of them in the future. We don’t know when the Shibuya incident will be completed with Part 2, but based on the history of the event, it should be sometime in 2027.
Everything We Know About Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Incident Part 1 Stage Play So Far
Fans living in or visiting Japan are eager to see the new stage play focused on the Jujutsu Kaisen story, especially since it’s covering one of the most climactic parts of the story — the Shibuya Incident arc, which will see the sealing of Gojo Satoru and the beginning of his downfall. With the stage play having been announced in July 2026, we already have a release window. The new Jujutsu Kaisen Stage Play is coming in November, and fans will have a chance to watch it from November 14th to 23rd. When it comes to the location, the stage play will be held in Tokyo, Japan, specifically in the LOVEZ Theater. Sadly, this means the stage play itself will not be accessible to fans globally and will stay as a Japan-only event.
Regardless, we have even more information on this upcoming show. We know the actors taking on the roles of the beloved cast created by Gege Akutami. Specifically for Gojo, we will see his role taken over by Ryosuke Miura, who has served as the Strongest Sorcerer for a while now. Here is the full list of all the main actors and the roles they will take:
- Ryuji Sato as Yuji Itadori
- Kazuaki Yasue as Megumi Fushiguro
- Erika Toyohara as Nobara Kugisaki
- Sara Takatsuki as Maki Zenin
- Igarashi Kakudo as Ryomen Sukuna
- Yuki Kubota as Toji Fushiguro
- Rei Fujita as Kenjaku
The new information release for the Stage Play also delivered new visuals to us, one half in blue, featuring the main cast made up of Nobara, Yuji, Megumi, Gojo, and one in red featuring our main antagonist, Kenjaku, as well as others like Choso, Jogo, and Mahito.
Gojo’s Official Anime Return Edges Closer With Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 Coming In 2027
Just like in the anime, Satoru Gojo is about to be sealed away in the stage play in the upcoming November 2026 Shibuya Incident Part 1 show. This is unfortunate and, naturally, it makes everyone wonder when Gojo’s official return will be after such a long wait. In the manga, Gojo made his return in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 221, from WSJ Double Issue #21-22 on April 24, 2023. This return was made possible thanks to Hana’s Cursed Technique, Jacob’s Ladder, which cancels out cursed techniques and objects, allowing Gojo Satoru to break free through the back end of the prism.
When it comes to the anime, the plot hasn’t reached there yet, and Gojo hasn’t made his return. However, based on the pacing of the story, we anticipate that his comeback will happen at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4. This means that Gojo Satoru should make his official return in the anime in 2027, when the fourth season drops, which will cover the rest of the Culling Game.
