The golden age of Manhwa seems to have come to an end, or, at least, it’s in a very prolonged hiatus. The oversaturation and repetitive formulas have left a mark on the audience, and a couple of failed adaptations (looking at you The Beginning After The End) have disappointed fans all over the world.
Things might be changing soon, with the arrival of the animated version of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (ORV), which was officially announced by Crunchyroll and produced by Aniplex. 2027 is going to be a great year for Manwha fans, and the arrival of the ORV anime will set in motion a new explosion in adaptations that’ll finally give Solo Leveling some competition.
After 6 Years, Manhwa Rivaling Solo Leveling Is Officially Getting An Anime
Solo Leveling is the world’s biggest manhwa, but a tough rival is debuting with an anime in 2027.
Omniscient Reader’s Arrival Could Change Everything For The Manhwa Industry
Manhwa has dropped considerably in both popularity and quality. With the absurd amount of series overpopulating the market and publishing standards being way more lax than in the Manga industry, artists have gone through an accelerated silver/golden age, then fallen into the darkest of ages with some sordid and repetitive topics.
Revenge tales, power fantasies, villainesses becoming romantasy heroines, regression, game-like leveling systems, among other cliché and overused tropes. In fact, the boom of Manwha happened during the COVID pandemic, but now the audiences are much more fragmented, and with so much offer to read, watch, and listen to, Korean Comics and Webtoons are on the decline.
But that might change thanks to the arrival of a significant anime in 2027, and that’s none other than Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. Produced by Aniplex, this anime will adapt the work of Sing Shong, a couple of writers who work side by side to bring to life one of the most popular series at the moment.
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is Solo Leveling’s Next Big Rival
ORV is equal (and in some places even bigger) than Solo Leveling in terms of popularity. It ranks third among the top five ongoing action Manhwa, and its web novel ranks first on most platforms (second on some others), in other words: Absolutely huge. When the anime arrives at some point next year, Manhwa could experience a second blooming effect, more so if we follow the logic of associated topics, which would inevitably lead to similar series rising in popularity.
This sort of ‘calling effect’ is going to attract even more people interested in pushing forward their popular series. At the top of the ranking of battle and martial arts series, there’s Eleceed, which is landing with its own anime later in 2026.

And, if we’re talking about strong candidates for adaptations, The Greatest Estate Developer is also one of the top contenders. But, as mentioned before, only those at the top of the rankings will be immediately considered for an anime adaptation.
As mentioned before, late 2026 and 2027 could be the very best years for fans of Manhwa and Webtoons. Plus, there’s something huge coming at a yet to be determined date, and that is the anime adaptation of Stellar Swordmaster (or Star-Embracing Swordmaster) in a co-production between Webtoon and Warner Bros. Things are about to get exciting for fans of Korean Comics.
