Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues an Insomniac Games tradition
A new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer dropped on Wednesday, showing off a new look at the Hulk and Tom Holland’s maybe-Man-Spider transformation (but not the film’s mysterious villain). PlayStation’s YouTube channel also uploaded the trailer, and its version included some fun news for fans of the Marvel’s Spider-Man games.
Spidey’s Brand New Day suit will be added to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on July 28, shortly before the film’s July 31 release date. Unlike Holland’s last suit in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was a mix of his Iron Spider armor and his regular suit, this rendition is much closer to a classic Spider-Man look. It’s a no-frills, blue-and-red get-up with mechanical web-shooters on Peter Parker’s wrists.
It’s not the first time the MCU’s spider-suits have popped up in the open-world adventure. No Way Home‘s Hybrid Suit, Homecoming‘s Homemade Suit, Avengers: Infinity War‘s Iron Spider Suit, and more of Holland’s wardrobe are in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The suits from Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man films are also in the game. All told, the game includes dozens of spider-suits for Peter and Miles Morales’ Spider-Man, including these godawful “Fly N’ Fresh” suits.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released in 2023 and instantly established itself as a game of the year contender. Our review said it “toys with Marvel history to be as much fun as possible.” There’s been no official reveal of a threequel yet, and developer Insomniac Games hasn’t said anything about a potential Venom spinoff either.
However, the PlayStation studio’s next game is almost here. Marvel’s Wolverine bares its claws in all their bloody glory on Sept. 15.
