2026 is a big year for Spider-Man fans. In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to release in July, Tom Holland will be back on the big screen as the friendly neighborhood superhero after Doctor Strange completed a spell that made the world forget about Peter Parker. Fans are eager to see a more grounded Spider-Man story after the multiversal chaos in other MCU projects, but next week could mark a particularly interesting time for fans of the franchise.
Sony’s upcoming Spider-Noir series has the wall-crawler’s future feeling far more creative and unpredictable than many fans predicted. In an era where superhero fatigue is casting a shadow over many projects, Spider-Man continues to stand apart because he’s able to work in almost any genre, tone, or universe. With Spider-Noir’s eight episodes releasing on May 25 on MGM+, Spider-Man fans have a lot to look forward to next week.
‘Really Can’t Get More Accurate Than That’ Fans Approve Of Nicolas Cage’s First Look As Spider-Noir
Nicolas Cage’s official look as Spider-Noir receives thumbs-up from fans.
Spider-Noir is a Highly Anticipated Superhero Project
It May Be the Most Ambitious Superhero Title of 2026
Spider-Noir is based on the fan-favorite Marvel Noir version of Spider-Man, a darker, alternate-universe interpretation of the character originally introduced in the comics before exploding in popularity thanks to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The series stars Nicolas Cage, who’ll reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir. Unlike the bright, youthful energy typically associated with Spider-Man, Spider-Noir takes place in a grim, 1930s-inspired world filled with corruption, crime, and hard-boiled detective storytelling, where an aging Ben Reilly/the Spider struggles as a private investigator. His world is turned upside down when an impossible-to-ignore case comes his way and requires him to put the suit back on.
Aside from Nicolas Cage embarking on his first-ever leading TV role, Spider-Noir’s supporting cast has also garnered significant attention, with the show reportedly featuring a mix of classic Spider-Man characters all reimagined through the noir lens. Lamorne Morris will be playing Robbie Robertson, Li Jun Li will portray Cat Hardy, Abraham Popoola will bring Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone to life, and Jack Huston will play Flint Marko/Sandman. While Sony has remained relatively secretive about details, Spider-Noir’s fresh, bold, and cynical new Spider-Man story has got a lot of fans feeling optimistic. Instead of trying to recreate a Marvel formula, Spider-Noir is embracing something stranger, moodier, and far more stylistically ambitious.

Next Week is Very Important For Spider-Man Fans
All Eight Episodes of Spider-Noir Drop At Once
Next week is surprisingly important for fans of the webslinger. Not only is there another project on the character, but it also serves as another sign that Spider-Man is evolving in bold and unexpected directions. Every episode of Spider-Noir’s eight-part Season 1 will release in the US on MGM+ on May 25 and will be available for streaming via Prime Video on May 27. Fans can also watch Spider-Noir in full black-and-white or in color, though Cage reportedly hoped that the black-and-white release would get fans interested in black-and-white noir films.
Spider-Man feels like one of the few superhero franchises that’s still willing to take creative risks. While many comic book universes have become increasingly reliant on interconnected continuity, Spider-Man projects continue to explore wildly different tones and genres. Audiences get an emotional multiverse epic like No Way Home, an animated masterpiece like Across the Spider-Verse, and are now preparing for a noir-inspired detective thriller starring Nicolas Cage. Few superhero franchises manage to maintain that level of variety, and it’s great to know that two distinct Spider-Man titles are releasing within only a few months of each other.
