How to get special abilities of weapons in Windrose

Windrose has a wide variety of weapons for you to obtain on your adventures, and the best ones will have special abilities. These abilities are unique to every weapon, and you’ll also find some with two skills to trigger.

However, these abilities will remain locked at first, and your job is to unlock them.

How do special abilities for weapons work in Windrose

For starters, you’ll need to find some Rare or Epic-tier weapons if you want to trigger special abilities. If you have Common and Uncommon weapons, you can upgrade them to improve their stats. However, they can’t have any special ability for you to unlock and then trigger.

The secret to unlocking a special ability is to ascend them.

  • Before you can ascend a weapon, you’ll need to upgrade your Weaponsmith. You’ll need Anvil and Bellows for that.
  • Once the Weaponsmith is upgraded, it will show the Ascend tab.
  • Select the tab, and then choose the item that has a locked special ability.
  • You’ll also need an item called Tumbaga Ingots to ascend it.

Both Anvil and Bellows can be crafted using the following resources.

Anvil

  • Ten Wood
  • One Anvil (This is separate from the upgrade. You can craft this Anvil using Foothills Iron Ingots).

Some of the best weapons in the game, like the Plague Halberd and the Rapier of Devastation, have not one, but two special abilities. To ascend them, you’ll need more resources. However, having two special abilities provides you with a lot of advantage. This privilege is usually reserved for the Epic-tier weapons.

While unlocking the abilities radically changes how well the weapon works, it requires a lot of extra resources. I recommend ascending weapons only after you have found the stronger ones and reached the endgame stage. At that point, the special abilities will feel almost necessary to combat the enemies you’ll usually face.
